Guide to building a positive mindset
Being an optimist can be hard for some people and sometimes you just don’t know where to start with being positive. That’s why I made this Guide to building a positive mindset for you. It will give you all the tips that you will need to start changing your life into a better direction.

Identify your negative beliefs, thoughts and actions
First you really need to identify why you are in a negative mindset. What thoughts do you have when you identify something as bad instead of neutral or good? Do you have certain beliefs in yourself? Are there things you do in your daily life that make you think negative about life? This might take some time to find out, but as soon as you have the core problems you can start changing them into positive thoughts, actions and beliefs. Change the bad things out for good ones. This will be a constant training to be positive, but it gets easier really fast.
Have a Gratitude Journal
We often forget to be thankful for the little things in life and in my opinion you should write down at least 5 things you are grateful for everyday. You might forget this sometimes, but I personally write whole lists of things that I am grateful for when I feel like I’m in the wrong mood. Make those gratitude lists a daily habit and put them into your morning and evening routine. Always read through them when you are finished and say βThank youβ for these things. It really helps! If you want to read more about Gratitude you can read the blog post I published about it. If you’re interested in getting a journal just for gratitude journaling, I recommend this one.
Get rid of toxic people and situations
There are always things that you think about too much. Most of the time situations that are from the past and that you can’t change anything about. Leave them behind and look forward, maybe talk about it with someone or even a person involved in the problem if it helps you to leave it behind. Also cut negative and toxic people out of your life. You don’t need them. Nobody that is making you feel bad is your friend, stop running after people who only drain your energy or manipulate you. This will make the biggest difference in your life.
Meditate daily
This will help you to tone down the thoughts and the overthinking. Meditation lowers your stress and can help you to be more positive. I personally love guided meditations and there are a lot online and in apps that are tailored to positivity. Meditating 20 minutes per day has not only an effect on your mood but also your body. There are a lot of studies that show how much changes with your body when you give it this peace. Humans weren’t made to be stressed and negative all the time.
Surround yourself with positive people and things
After you already cut out toxic people and your negative past you should find more positive things to surround yourself with. I frequently unfollow people who don’t inspire me and find more positive and inspiring ones. Maybe start a new hobby to find people who click better with you or even join online communities where you can talk about everything. I’m currently trying to build a group of badass women. Learn more about that HERE.
Positive self-talk / Affirmations
To keep the positivity high you should continue to form a positive mindset through positive and motivation self talk. I personally love affirmations and use them a lot with my meditation. Affirmations are positive sentences that you say to yourself to reform your subconscious mind into automatically thinking more positive. I personally love affirmations like βI can do thisβ, βI am worth itβ and βI am loved.β Say positive things to yourself daily. Make it a habit!
This was my Guide to building a positive mindset. Of course there are even more things you can do for your mindset, but these are the most effective one that will give you the best jumpstart into changing to positivity.

Thanks for sharing these tips! Keeping a gratitude journal is an excellent way to cultivate a more positive mindset. I use a free app called Gratitude Garden on my phone to for my gratitude journal, it prompts you to write down 3 things you’re grateful for each day and rewards you with an accessory you can put in your “gratitude garden” and you build a beautiful garden with your recorded gratitude. I also couldn’t agree more on that we need to remove the toxic people out of our lives and spend more time with positive people. I wrote a whole article on this topic called “7 Types of Friends to Avoid for a Happier Life”, if you have a few minutes check it out at https://buddingoptimist.com/types-of-friends-to-avoid and let me know your thoughts!

I love this post! Having a gratitude journal is something I’ve never heard of, but I do love writing things down in my journal such as how my day was, etc. I suppose I’ve always used my journal to vent and pin point things I need to change my perspective on.
Thanks for sharing these awesome tips! I’ll definitely give some of them a go!

Thank you Aria!
I feel like people like you and me that are so used to writing and reflecting automatically do these things in our journals.
Let me know if some of them work for you!
