Everything you need to start a blog fast
You want to start a blog and overcame the fear to actually start one? Amazing, let me help you with getting it going. Here is everything you need to start a blog fast.
If you havenβt started a blog yet, I highly recommend Bluehost* for setting one up.
Have a plan for your blog
If you donβt have a plan for your blog youβre having a little bit of work to do. You should know what you blog about, who will read your blog and what kind of problems you might be solving with the content you produce. This part also includes your branding and your mission statement. If your blog has a why it will be so much easier to create.
Pick a website hosting service
Stuff is getting real when you start with this. Which host will you use for your blog? Youβll want to consider it for a while, since there are a few providers that are really good. I personally use Bluehost* and I think that is one of the best hosting services for beginners. They guide you through most of the setup and send you tips for running a website regularly.Β
Pick a website design
Now that you have the background work set, you want to work on the front. Your website design is your first impression, so make it fit to your blog niche and look how many important things are βabove the foldβ in the design you choose. Above the fold is the part people see when they open the page and donβt scroll down, your true first impression. I made a blog post with my favorite website designs for beginners HERE.
Write several posts ahead of time
You donβt wanna launch a blog empty. Thatβs not a good look and people will immediately leave if you only have one post on there when you launch. The rule of thumb is to have at least 8 blog posts at launch, more are obviously better to make your blog seem like itβs been going for a while to new visitors.
Create relevant pages
Your blog should not just have a homepage. You should have a couple legal pages, an about page and a contact page. Anything beyond that really depends on how you plan on using your blog. If you want to make it a business you should create more pages leading people to either buy your product or sign onto your email list.
Have a launch plan
This is relevant if your blog will be something you want to do professionally. You can skip this if you just want to write and have this as a hobby. If you want to make this a business move you obviously need a plan for launching. Launching isnβt just putting your blog settings on public, youβll want people to find it. There are tons of launch strategies out there, I wonβt recommend a specific one. Pick whatβs best for your niche.
If you want to make it into a businessβ¦
Youβre just starting out with blogging or simply searching for new ways to further your business? I have a few recommendations for you:
Bluehost – My hosting service for the last 4 years. The core of every blog is the hosting service itβs running on. Without hosting, your blog most likely ends with an ugly .blogspot.com or .wordpress.com. This is the first step towards a professional blog.
Grammarly – This tool makes sure my grammar is right in all my social media posts. Itβs also just an amazing tool if you also write in your free time, are a student or use Google Docs and dislike their autocorrection.
Tailwind – Tired of manually pinning every day? This tool helps you get your pins in front of a bigger audience and Iβve been using it for a year now. Pinterest is an important part of driving traffic to your blog.
ConvertKit – Want to start an email list to generate more sales or just to keep your readers updated? This is a great service to use. Remember: An email list is something you own. Thatβs not the case for social media followers.
Blogging Bossbabe – A course I made for all the people wanting to start a blog and make it successful. Everything you need to know in one place and affordable if you want to save some $$$. Check out whatβs taught in it and youβll be amazed at how much goes into blogging.
